Latest Update
by posted 03/28/2020

We are trying our best to update you on the latest but information changes so quickly that it is hard to get that out to everyone. Basically, we are on hold until 5/4 with our first games probably being 5/10. There are many options being thrown around but nothing is set in stone. Some of these are pushing the end of season to the end of June, playing Memorial Day weekend, weekday games, summer and/or fall lacrosse, etc.

We will be starting contests on our Instagram account this week for our players. Have your son/daughter like our page (Methuenyouthlacrosse) and tag us in their practice videos for a chance to win!

As a league, we are in communication with all our parent leagues trying to get as much information as possible and also talking to our neighboring towns to see what they are thinking. The board has talked about all options going forward if the season does get cancelled and will pass that info along if we get to that point (fingers crossed that we do not). We will be giving our graduating 8th graders their gift and rewarding scholarships to 2020 HS graduates even if we do not play in 2020.

The drawing for the raffle tickets will be pushed back to our first game. If you have stubs and you want to pass them in before we start practicing,  you can mail them to our PO Box. Sorry, I can not have people dropping them off at my house. The mailing  address is...

PO Box 2269

Methuen, MA 01844

If anything changes, we will pass that along as soon as we can.

MBYLL Update
by posted 03/21/2020

Here is the latest update from MBYLL. They have been very open with us in regards to the boys season. If you have a daughter in our league, there is no update. Our plan as a league is to start practicing on 4/7, as long as schools reopen on that date. If schools remain closed after 4/7, we will reassess again.

The MBYLL Board of Directors continues to monitor the covid-19 pandemic and learning from local, state and national authorities. We are watching communications from the MIAA and other state sports organizations as we look to communicate plans. We’d like to address two areas that we are focusing on, playing lacrosse games and coach certification.

Lacrosse Games: Last week we announced the cancellation of week 1 of the season and pushing back that start to at least April 17-19 for Select and Classic League play. Following announcements from the Governor on schools, and the MIAA’s latest announcement on the start of the High School sports season it does appear April 19 is very unlikely. Two things that we want to do is avoid having to make announcements every week based on changing circumstances and do everything we can to play lacrosse games this Spring. If/when we get the all clear to play this Spring, we will have numerous challenges to address. Field availability town by town and referee availability will all be challenges we will need to address. We most likely won’t know the extent of each of these challenges until the all clear date is set.

For now, we are not setting any “start date” as the situation continues to change, and no one knows when we will be able to play. We are putting all games on hold until the time that we are given the all-clear from local and state authorities to resume outdoor youth sports activities. At that time, we will make determinations and announcements as to:
When the season will start: All towns may be not be given the same green light to resume activities. We may want to allow some time for practices before games are played.
Games that are cancelled vs postponed
A reassessment of each town’s field availability
Plan for rescheduling game(s)
Plans for the Jamboree
If the season is taking place in any form
Financial decisions due to a partial or cancelled season
Any restrictions that need to be put in place as far as total number of people in one location.

While we are discussing and planning for numerous scenarios, we are not making any final decisions at this time due to the ever-changing circumstances we are all dealing with.

Season update
by posted 03/15/2020

The past week has been a crazy roller coaster ride. The board met today to come up with a plan for the season and somehow between that meeting and now, the plan has changed.  As of now, here is the schedule for the 2020 season.

  • No practices until 4/7 at the earliest
  • Our first games for both classic games and boys select teams will be played the weekend of 4/17-4/19.
  • The girls select games are slated to start 5/1
  • The raffle ticket drawing will be pushed back to 4/19. Once people are able to congegate in groupls, we can figure out a time for raffle ticket drop off.
  • Paint nite and our canning day have both been postponed

MYL, the City of Methuen and both parent leagues strongly suggest social distancing at this point so we can hopefully hit the fields on 4/7. That doesn'r mean you can not get ready for the season. Keep your stick in your hand and work on skills. Find a wall and play wall ball, scoop ground balls in your yard or get a Cradlebaby to work on skiils indoors. Go for walks and runs if you can. The more you can do now, the easier it will be when we do start the season.

This is uncharted territory and MYL is hard at work to make sure when we get the go ahead, we will be ready! Thank you for your patience and stay safe!

All communications from the league in regards to the start of the season can also be found on your son's/daughters team page and Facebook.

MBYLL Update
by posted 03/14/2020

Good morning. You should have received an email from the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League yesterday. The executive board decided to move the start of the select and classic season to the weeeknd of April 17th-19th. If you have a daughter in our program, we have not heard anything in regards to game schedules being altered at this point. We will update everyone on our practice schedule after our emergency board meeting tomorrow afternoon. Here is the email from MBYLL...

March 13, 2020 – The Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL) board of directors today announced the cancellation of Week 1 of MBYLL season (April 3-5) for both Classic and Select play due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Week 2 of Select play (April 10-11) will be rescheduled for later in the season. At this time, the MBYLL season will be scheduled to start on the weekend of April 17-19 for both Select and Classic league play. The board will continue to monitor the situation and take any necessary actions based on the latest facts and recommendations from local, state and national health and government agencies.
The MBYLL Board is asking all member town programs to follow local and state government mandates and guidelines regarding gatherings and the use of public space and fields in their towns. The board is strongly advising its member town programs TO CANCELL ALL in-person lacrosse activities through the end of March and reassess at that time based on information and guidelines at that time. This includes indoor and outdoor practices, team meetings, and any in-person gatherings.
“The health and safety of our players, coaches, referees and families is the utmost importance to our league,” said MBYLL President Jim Dalton.  “While our first games are three weeks away, the fast-paced changes taking place in all of our communities led the board to make this decision to provide guidance and understanding for our 12,000+ families for at least the next month.”
MBYLL will be in contact with town directors about having extra help with re-scheduling games later in the season.
