FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I have to know anything about lacrosse to play?
No prior experience is required or expected. We will teach the basic skills necessary to play.
Do I need special equipment?
Yes. The equipment for the boys and girls are different. For the girls, you will need a mouthpiece, goggles, and stick. The girls stick is different from a boys stick, there is a shallower pocket. Girls playing on the 1/2 level can use a boys stick.
The boys need a lacrosse helmet, mouthpiece, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, and a stick. Sticks can be cut shorter in the 1/2 division. At the 5/6 level, defensemen sticks can be 5' in length (caller Tiger poles). At the 7/8 level, defensemen sticks can be 6' in length.
MYL provides every team with goalie equipment. If your son/daughter wants to play goalie full time, reach out and we can help you with what will be needed.
For more info, you can click on the equipment tab.
Why do I need insurance?
Both of our parent leagues require every player and coach to be registered through them and carry insurance. On the girls side, it is through Founders, on the boys side, MBYLL. Both use Sadler Insurance for coverage. This insurance is good for a year and covers your child during all lacrosse activities, not just Methuen Lacrosse. You must purchase insurance for $30 before you can partake in any MYL activity.
